Awareness Yoga

 Through our practice, we become more attuned to our breath and develop a deeper physical awareness as we engage in various movements. This is just the beginning of the journey!

In our practice, we incorporate:

  • Pranayama: Breathwork to enhance vitality
  • Kriya: A series of specific exercises
  • Mudras: Hand and finger positions that direct energy
  • Meditation: This can involve focusing on a single thought or intention for a set period—whether it's 30 seconds, 3 minutes, or even 3 hours. Every thought you focus on becomes a form of meditation. By organizing our breath and focusing our minds, we give our brains a break from the constant stream of thoughts. Did you know we think over 60,000 thoughts every day? How many do we truly focus on? A break sounds refreshing!

In class, we continually return to our breath, visual focus, and the challenge of stillness. It is in this stillness that our bodies can harness internal energy, along with the additional energy cultivated during practice, to promote healing.

There is no competition for energy during our rest periods. These moments allow the body to consolidate energy into your system—benefitting your lungs, heart, and bloodstream. This is why many people experience an uplifting feeling during practice; we release unnecessary energy (Apana) and invite in new energy through breath, which oxygenates our bloodstream and internal organs. This efficiency is one reason why people choose Kundalini Yoga; it promotes rapid transformation, bringing mind, body, and spirit into a state of calmness and clarity.

What to Expect in Class:

  • Arrival: Please arrive a few minutes early to sign in and secure your spot.
  • Tuning In: We begin each session by chanting the Adi Mantra, "Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo," which translates to "I bow to the Divine Wisdom within me." We also chant Sanskrit mantras, and translations are provided for your understanding.
  • Warm-Up: A set of gentle exercises to loosen the body.
  • Kriya: The main exercise sequence.
  • Savasana: An extended period of lying down meditation for rest and consolidation. While relaxing, you may hear gongs and crystal bowls, enhancing your experience as the energy you cultivated integrates.
  • Guided Meditation: A blissful meditation lasting 3 to 11 minutes, always guided to accommodate all experience levels.
  • Community: After practice, join us for tea and conversation. We’re available to answer any questions you may have.
